Kitchen
sink:
Never
pour cooking grease down the drain. Wipe greasy pots and pans out with a
paper towel. Run plenty of hot water when rinsing greasy items.
Toilets:
Don't
put cotton swabs or garbage down them. Install a soft water conditioner to
keep bowl and jets clean. Don't store small items above them. Keep
the seat closed.
Garbage
Disposals: Run
plenty of cold water when chopping vegetables. Keep cooking grease out of
them. If it won't turn on, check the breaker and the reset button usually
located on the bottom of the disposal. Never stick hands or objects in
them.
Laundry:
Clean
the lint trap regularly. Be careful when washing old blankets or throw
rugs.
Tubs/Showers: Install
a strainer to catch hair. Never take the screens off or break out the
crossbars. Be careful of the plastic razor guards.
Basins:
Install
a strainer. Run plenty of water.
Frozen
Water Lines: (Of
course not a frequent problem here in Florida).
Turn up the heat in the house. Open up the cabinet doors. Remove the
aerator if there is one. Open faucet handle(s) all the way.
Septic
Tanks: Add
a form of bacteria to the tank. Avoid bleaches and drain cleaners that are
harmful. Use low sudsing laundry detergent. Read labels and make
sure the treatments are safe for septic tanks. Have tanks pumped
regularly.
